Long Ranger 4 Horn Speaker Repair Notes.

Our high school marching band director uses a Long Ranger 4 PA Speaker to bark commands to his charges. It died. They were not unhappy about it. He wants it fixed. The company that makes them no longer services them.

Symptoms? Power light comes on and dims with correct microphone barking but not a peep, no hum, hiss.... or bark.

Diss-assembly was easy even after multiple beverages. Quick ohm check reveals 8 ohm horn speaker voice coil is open circuit.

Speaker seems to be a GE MPI-30 somewhat beefed up with metal bars on the edge and the swivel base removed.

Found an MPI-30 speaker online for about $25 & ordered
- Will update on repair soon.

Until then, quiet......

Speaker arrived - Cost about $27 including shipping. Decided rather that drilling holes to swap metal edge stiffener bars, just swapped out inner speaker cone. Total fix time was about 20min.

Works well - plugged external mike in and did my best Erol Oktay* impression - "just one more time .."

Sorry Kids - I dragged my feet as long as I could fixing the darn thing.
